Winter Silver birches

Arches 300gsm Paper, Daniel Smith
Watercolours, gouache and black ink
The first painting of the Silver Birches series, and the first painting on Arches 300gsm Hot Press paper, which was a revelation. With hot press paper I was able to create details like never before, and the detail of the bark was crucial. I wanted to capture the signature silver birch bark patterns. This was used for Christmas Cards, with a gothic fairytale twist.
